Tansener Tanpura Web Series on Hoichoi is a musical mystery that will tickle your senses of music. Tansener Tanpura bengali Web Series will take you to the roots of the notes and melodies of music through the traditional Indian Classical music, that has been nurtured and developed with great pride in the princely state of Anandagarh.
Pandit Kedar Misra was the music trainer of the then existing Nawab and got the gift of Tansen’s Tanpura (the mother of Indian string instruments) as the Nawab didn’t have an heir. Kedar promised to gift this Tanpura to his most able disciple.  One who would not only gain immense expertise in musical notes, but would also have the power to conquer the challenges of life.

So, he designed a recording instrument, resembling a mini-gramophone. The instrument would respond only under the exposure of perfectly placed musical notes sung or played by any individual with utmost devotion , of a particular Raga of the Indian classical music.
The Raga to which the instrument would respond was the first mystery that was needed to be unraveled. And hints to this mystery were hidden in paintings made by him that he gifted to each of his disciples. All of his disciples were instructed to keep their paintings in the same room which they used for musical practice, with no knowledge that it had something to do with Tansen’s Tanpura.

Once the device started to work, it would play the recording of Kedar’s final words to his disciple, followed by a riddle that would either give the path to Tansen’s Tanpura, or give the name of the next disciple who will act as a step to find the Tanpura.
10 years later, Kedar’s grand daughter Shruti, an ardent lover of western music, takes her lover Aalap to her mother Madhubanti. Aalap always aspired to be the disciple of Madhubanti.  Shruti’s mother is shocked to find the depth and preliminary training of Aalap’s voice and with Aalap’s pitch, the first step of mystery unravels.

Tansener Tanpura web series Hoichoi  is filled with mystery and thrill. With almost no exception, thrill runs through the entire 5 episodes. So much so, that it is difficult for one to not enlist this series as one of the best, at least on Hoichoi.

Script
The script of Tansener Tanpura is replete with music and not-so-popular information throughout the series. Although Kedar was the vocal trainer, he had immense passion for all sorts of musical instruments that were used in Indian Classical Music. And the same had been infused into his disciples.
Music lovers are often known for their impartial character, and this series has tried to pitch this point every now and then. Through the well-researched facts as well as the diction of each of the characters. The demarcations of Indian and western music can be wiped out if one truly has pure knowledge and correct form of training. Bits of strong information with solid ground have been sandwiched with great expertise in between conversations and musical discussions.

Acting
It is a very rare sight to find Vikram in the role of a mystery solver. And to the utter dismay of most of the people who have the notion that he is just a petty commercial hero material, he takes the character of Aalap to a completely different level. Not only while solving riddles and thinking about them all the time, his way of portraying a singer who has immense thirst for melody and training is so good that it is difficult to believe at certain points that this man is not a singer himself.
Rajat Ganguly gives the character of Kedar different shades—a soul who can be an ocean of mercy in music, can also turn out to an extremely strict and disciplined trainer when required. Rupsha Chatterjee’s performance as Shruti was also very commendable.

Music
When Joy Sarkar is the name, there is no way music and background scores of Tansener Tanpura could have been any better. The man who breathes music, has infused the same flavour into every layer of the series. From the pop colour of western charisma to the grounded tradition voiced straight from the papyrus of the past—each and every composition of the series blazed in the fire of classic music and of course with good theoretical base.

Cinematography, Special Effects & Editing
Prosenjit Chowdhury as the DOP and Md. Piyasuddin as the editor of Tansener Tanpura did a splendid job in putting together the visuals of this series with beauty at its based. Blending of scenes, layering of camera and of course the charm of special effects—the visuals of Tansener Tanpura is an eclectic example of simplicity at its best.

Direction
Soumik Chattopadhyay undoubtedly deserves a standing ovation for such a detailed direction in Tansener Tanpura. Primarily, he made the series with not only music, but also a lot of grace. The story is being told here with least focus on what is not important. Yes, characterisation is very important. But sometimes, more emphasis on shaping up the background of the characters can actually result in a little bit of beating around the bush and digression from the central story.
Instead, use of flashbacks as well as expressions of the casting members through the portrayal of their parts, can actually speak a lot about the characters. Thus, Soumik Chattopadhyay leaves us enthralled with a brilliant web series like Tansener Tanpura as well as compels us to bubble with enthusiasm till the release of the season finale on July 3, 2020.
